The haunting of hill house is a Netflix original series directed by Mike Flanagan.
He is an American director mostly known for horror movies. Hush, Oculus etc. are some of his famous films.The main cast are Michiel Huisman, Elizabeth Reaser, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, and Victoria Pedretti as the adult version of the siblings. Carla Gugino and Henry Thomas portray the role of parents Olivia and Hugh Crain. Timothy Hutton act as older version of Hugh. It is based on a 1959 book written by Shirley Jackson of the same name. It is premiered on October 12,2018 in netflix.
Only one season is released yet. The season has 10 episodes each having a running time of about one hour. Some episodes have more than 1 hour.
A second season is scheduled to release in 2020.
The story of first season ends in that season itself. We don't need to wait for the second season for the suspenses. Second season may not be a continuation of first.
The series is basically a horror mystery thriller.
It is slow placed in the first episode but the plot twists at the end of that episode, keep us watch the entire show.Even though it is known as a horror series, it follows a mysterious and suspenseful mood throught. It does not follow the regular conventional horror cliches like jump scares, but keeps the horror in its own way. Director had won in the attempt to make a different horror experience. The show is set in two timelines. Past and present. The alternate presentation of each timelines makes the show interesting.
The show begins with the narration about the hill house by steven, a book writer.Hugh, olivia and their five children lives there. Steven is the elder son. A night in hill house and the problems are shown .Later it shifts to the present where each character is introduced and familiarised. The main story revolves around the five siblings. It is made clear in the first episode that something happened in the hill house on a night and that changed their life completely.
Even after 26 years the memories of hill house haunts them and it starts to affect their present. They are forced to join again and solve the mystery.
Making is the most appreciable work in the story. It is an example of how a different horror story can be made. The hill house events are set in a dark mood which makes a mysterious atmosphere. Editing is done carefully and brilliantly. For first five episodes, each episode is based on each of the five siblings. The actors had done an excellent job. Especially carla gugino, who portrays olivia. The kids were also amazing. The story is predictable but the making keeps it a unique and different one. It is good enough to keep us stick to the entire ten episodes. Horror fans should never miss this one.
