Is it worth to watch ‘Betaal’?:

Most anticipated Indian web
series ‘Betaal’ had been released on 24 may 2020,which is claimed as the first
Zombie series release in India. The series had to face innumerable criticism
from social media platforms.so the audience is confused about watching the series.
Is it really bad as the ratings show? Let us analyze the good and bad about this
show which will help you to make a decision in watching the show.
ABOUT
This Netflix released series is
directed by Patrick Graham and Nikhil Mahajan. Patrick Graham also takes part
in writing along with Suhani Kanwar.The original version speaks hindi but it is
also available in tamil,telugue and English. The main reason this series is so awaited
is because of the production company ‘Red Chillies Entertainment’ established
by Bollywood superstar Shah-rukh khan in 2003.The show consists four episodes
with duration ranging between 40 to 50 minutes.So it can be said that show has
a duration which is slightly more than a cinema. It gained more publicity
before its release because of the genre in which the show belong.it is
announced as the first Bollywood zombie thriller series. The show is basically
a horror thriller which depicts zombie attack.
PLOT
The Military team led by Vikram
sirohi is assigned by his senior officer Tyagi .A job to evacuate the
Protestants from an old village where the work to build a highway road is progressing.
The contractor claims the villagers are naxals and asks to execute the rebels.
But the villagers have an unleashed secret behind the tunnel which the workers
are trying to open. They tries to resist them from opening it.with the arrival
of sirohi and team the story took a turn and that night becomes the deadliest
night in their life. The main questions are what is inside the tunnel and why
the villagers are trying to resist them? How the danger behind the tunnel
affects them? Show gives the answers.
IS THE SHOW IS THAT MUCH BAD
It depends. There are factors
which will make you interested towards the show as well as uninterested.
POSITIVES TO WATCH
1) Cinematography: In one word - Amazing!
It is the best work in the show. The visuals, the frames etc. were remarkable.
The cinematographer really deserves an appreciation. Some visuals from the
movie ‘Tumbaad’were recalled. Totally it was a good work.
2) Direction: The direction was
also fine. Even though it becomes down at the end, the overall direction was adequate.
Succeed to make the show thrilling throughout.
3) Thrills: This show is
thrilling from the beginning. And mysterious also.it keeps us curious
throughout the entire show. Even though the show has many mistakes it tried well
to keep the thrills.
4) Concept: A zombie thriller series is a fresh idea to put
forward in Netflix India. There are investigation thrillers, Acton thrillers,
horror thrillers sci-fi series, etc. But a horror thriller wrapped up in zombie
background is really an interesting plot.
5) Story line: Story is filled with mysteries, from the
beginning. Traditional believes, Indian independence history (imaginary) etc.
is merely explained in the story. Most of the story is based on the events happening
in single night.
DRAWBACKS
1) The last two episodes were felt as the main drawback of
the show. First two episodes were really interesting and it will make us
curious to know rest of the story. But in the last two episodes they failed to
deliver something new and exciting. It had a good story line, but fails in
script.
2) Repeatability is a main flaw in last two episodes. The
characters were intended to wander in an old bungalow most of the time. And
they had nothing to do other than fear, fire gun and run. Same thing repeating
again and again becomes annoying
3) Logical mistakes ruin the entire flavor of the show. So
much of logical mistakes kill the interest and effect of thrills.
4) Predictability is more near to the end. If the cliché
scenes were omitted it would have been better. Even though it keeps the thrills,
events became predictable which creates disappointment.
5) Duration is very less compared to the story it had to tell.
If one more episode was added with proper explanation to some scenes it would
have been better.
RECOMMENDED TYPE OF AUDIENCE
It is not everyone’s cup of tea! Thriller lovers should try
this because it delivers thrills throughout. even though it fails in logic and script.
And those who interested in a visual treat and well-choreographed show rather
than a story based one can also take a look. It is not recommended for those
who expect a perfect horror thriller with great story. Those who interested in
a fresh concept can try it to know whether this zombie thriller is up to your
expectation or not.
OVERALL VERDICT AND
RATING
It may not satisfy all.But it was a good attempt to deliver
a zombie thriller based on myth and history. The attempt must be appreciated.
And it tried well to keep up the thrills. Overall, it is a watchable show.
Personally it didn’t disappointed us.so many people waited
for this series. So those who interested in the concept should watch it. It may not disappoint you.
